Tech Sergeant Van-Ess is a great recruiter & helped me start my air force career in SF. He always kept it real and told me everything I needed to know. I appreciate him for everything & wish him the best going forward. Most people talk about how their recruiters rushed them in and left them short, Sergeant Van-Ess makes sure you are fully prepared and ready for everything to have a successful training & career after. He is also very understanding and easy to talk to. Don't be afraid to stop by & talk to him if you ever have any questions or are interested in joining. 10/10 - A1C Boateng

I had a smooth experience with the whole process as the recruiter in the laurel location was never tired in explaining to me any question I asked him. He answered almost all my countless phones calls, though he didn't come with me to Meps as I saw other recruiters. In all, my experience was fantastic.

If you are interested, or even curious, about joining the Air Force, I would highly recommend reaching out to TSgt Van-Ess. I came into his office knowing that my timeline would likely be longer than the average recruit because I required a few medical waivers but he was patient, optimistic, and supportive throughout the entire process. There were a few hiccups in the process but he always remained willing to work with me and was overall incredibly professional and enjoyable to work with. I especially appreciate how much effort he puts into making sure his folks are as prepared as possible before leaving to BMT. He frequently brought in his professional contacts to speak with us about their experience in service, some having just graduated from BMT as well as a current MTI at Lackland, taught us basic drill movements, and frequently quizzes us to make sure we have been studying up on the information we are expected to know in BMT. He really goes the extra mile to make sure his people are as informed and prepared as they can be before they leave for BMT which not all recruiters do. He is easily reachable and always a phone call or text away should you have a last minute question, concern, or just want some more information on something.

Overall, TSgt Van-Ess was a fantastic recruiter and I'm very glad I went to him to start this new journey. Can't recommend him enough!

Reaches out on time to us and helps answer any questions we have and is honest about everything. I'd give it more than 5 stars if i could. Would recommend this recruiter to anyone wanting to join the Air Force you will never be disappointed.

I decided to join the Air Force and recruiter TSgt Van-Ess has been my biggest help towards getting to where I wanted to be. If I can help anyone to see if they genuinely want to join you will not find an Air Force recruiter that treats you like a person and cares about your future that isn’t TSgt Van-Ess.

If you’re considering joining the Air Force and want to gain insight, Technical Sergeant Van-Ess is the man you want to speak to!! My time with him has been amazing so far. He is very professional and ensures every recruit gains all the information they need. Furthermore, his communication is above and beyond; In my case, he would consistently update me on the status of my waivers and made sure I was doing well.
Over the past year, T.Sgt. Van-Ess has worked hard to get me qualified to join. I had to submit multiple waivers and he helped me along the way and that’s something I’ll always be grateful for!
Thank you T.Sgt. Van-Ess!
Lastly, I’d like the mention the great environment he has created with the Delayed Entry Program members. It’s something that has brought us all together and made us feel like a family!

Looking forward to shipping soon and being apart of the Air Force! Aim High!

I went to TSgt Van-Ess an Air Force recruiter a couple of months ago and I’m glad I did. He is very thoughtful and keeps your interests in mind during the process. I went all the way through training and went back to visit for RAP because I was grateful to him. I recommend for those who are looking to join the military hit him up!!

Like a lot of people, I heard that “your recruiter is not your friend”, “they just want to meet their quota”, and “they will lie to you”. I walked into TSgt Van-Ess’s office assuming that my experience trying to enlist would be like every one else’s. I would get lied to, he would tell me what I wanted to hear, and he would try to sell me a dream that he knew was far from true. But if that wasn’t the biggest misconception, I don’t know what is. TSgt Van-Ess is one of the most genuine, and up front recruiter’s that you will meet, HE WILL NOT TRY TO SELL YOU A DREAM. If you are interested in being the few that decide to serve in the Air Force and you’re having a hard time trying to pick out who to talk too, TSgt Van-Ess would without a doubt be the best person to go too. Now since I am voluntarily doing this I could tell you some down sides, there will be times when he won’t pick up his phone right away, there will be times when he doesn’t answer your text as soon as you send it but best believe he will get back to you as soon as he can, answering anything you ask him. Besides that i can’t really say anything negative about him cause nothing comes to mind. I was blessed to go to a recruiter like him and im pretty sure everyone else that has enlisted through him can say the same.
